Toxic Free Living

Part of my healing journey included reducing the toxins my body had to process each day.

Changing daily habits, and a house full of products, is not something that happened overnight. Little by little, I made changes, starting first with products that are constantly on or in my body.

Over time, I’ve been able to drastically reduced the toxic burden my body is having to cope with.

Some links below are affiliate links, however I only recommend products that I believe provide value to my readers.

Skin Care & Beauty Products

Three Ships Beauty- Skin Care

Our skin is our largest organ, so I made it a priority to focus on reducing the toxins my skin was having to filter through and deal with.

Less time dealing with chemicals and toxins = more time for my body to work on healing.

Finding affordable clean beauty skin care products though, that were genuinely clean and not “green washed” was a challenge. That’s why I was so excited to find Three Ships Beauty products. They are a Canadian company, owned and operated by women who have overcome health challenges and know the importance of toxic free products.

Three Ships is fully transparent on their ingredient list (you can even find out where they sustainably source the ingredients and see on a map where they come from). Their products are cruelty free, vegan & allergy friendly, and pregnancy safe.

**They offer a money back guarantee on all their products within 30 days if, for any reason, you aren’t satisfied.**

Use the code RALIFEHACKS20 to save 20% off any regular priced item (excludes kits and sale items).

Beauty Counter – Makeup

I have tried “clean beauty” make-up in the past and was disappointed with the quality and wearability of it, but Beauty Counter does NOT disappoint.

I’m a huge fan of their makeup, deodorant, and sunscreen.

I purchase mine through Asa (another RA Warrior) and if you reach out to her and tell her I sent you her way she will add in a free gift for you.

You can check out the products here.

** They offer a 60 day money back satisfaction guarantee on ALL their products!!** The perfect way to test out a product without the risk of losing money if you don’t like it.

Cleaning & Laundry

Tru Earth – Laundry Detergent

Since I’m wearing clothing 24 hours a day, and the clothing is on my skin, it only made sense to ensure that my laundry detergent was toxic free to help me on my healing journey.

One of the great things about Tru Earth laundry strips are that they are ** super arthritis friendly ** to use.

No heavy jugs of detergent to carry, nothing heavy to pour, and it takes up such a small amount of space (perfect for my minimalist heart).

In addition to being better for my health, it is also better for the health of the environment! Plastic free, zero waste detergent and packaging.

Here are a few other features about the detergent but be sure to click here to learn more.

  • Paraben-free

Water Filtration

Berkey Water Filter System

Since we are made up of 60% water, I wanted to be sure the water I was putting in my body was as clean as could be.

We switched to the Berkey gravity fed water filter system and we absolutely love it!

We chose to switch to this water filtration system because because they get rid of pathogenic bacteria, chemical contaminants, parasites and effectively reduces fluoride and other pollutants found in water.

It does this without removing the vital minerals found in water that our bodies need to maintain health.

** I found them to be more arthritis friendly than the pitcher filters since I don’t have to lift a heavy pitcher in order to get water, simply use the tap on the system to get fresh water out.**

To refill our system we use the extension hose from our kitchen sink so I have nothing to lift in order to refill it.

You can check them out on Amazon.

15 Stage Water Filter

Aside from consuming water, the next largest exposure is bathing or showering in water.

The area where we live frequently has water quality issues and I have noticed them impacting my health in the past.

To reduce this problem, we installed a 15-stage-water-filter similar to this one in our shower. I noticed an improvement in how my skin felt with the very first shower I took.

I can usually tell when he filter needs to be changed too because my skin lets me know that I’d not filtering enough.

These water filters are very affordable on Amazon. Click here to check it out and read the reviews!
